Blue

For Joan Didion, after reading Blue Nights

In the late loaming
into summer after rain
a leg stops pulsing
pedaling a ten speed
uphill. Steep climb
cliff fallen. Branched trail
pot-holed and fracturing still.
A want for. The kind of glow
seen only in firelight
in the country. A harbor of somethingness.
The incomplete daylight of June.
Smooth jazz held into a hand.
The fingertip touched. The poor.
The eccentric. Lit incense ash
floats in molecular rhythm.
A pier. A pyre. The last
sense of space closes in.
