Like Father, Like Daughter

Can you compare him to a season?
Of course. All men are seasons.
He is mostly summer.
But some days, he can be winter:
cold, harsh, brutal and unforgiving.
But he is mostly summer:
something like a bright sun burning and burning all day long.
But he can also be autumn:
warm, a gentle breeze blowing, pleasant, welcoming.

Do you love him?
As much as he loves me.

Does he love you?
He tolerates me.

As
a woman
and as his daughter.
I learned this when I was 13,
afraid to tell him my mistakes
becausehis anger had a tendency to spill
and I was left to clean it up.

Are you like him?
Yes.
I am his bad parts:
anger, rage, impatience, inability to forgive
or forget,
clenched fists, raised voice, raised hands,
hard slaps,
the hitting.
I am all that.

Any good parts?
Some:
the work ethic, the laugh, the hands, toes and eyes.
